Live-in
Caregiver Program
The Live-in Caregiver program is truly one of a kind!
Through this program, the Canadian government issues
a work permit to foreign workers interested in coming
to Canada in order to provide Canadians in need of
such services, such as children, elderly and disabled
individuals. Every year, dozens of people benefit
from this program, also known informally as the Nanny
/ Au Pair program.
Families are entitled
to make salary deductions in order to remit taxes
on their nanny's behalf. In general, families can
deduct:
- Room and board
- Income Tax
- Canada Pension Plan
- Employment Insurance
In most provinces, overtime
can be paid at 1.5 times the regular rate after 44 hours.
There are 8 national statutory holidays that nannies
are allowed to take-off with pay.
The most up to date
information for minimum wage rates is shown below.

Both the caregiver and family must clearly understand
the terms of their contract. The relationship between
employer and employee in this arrangement is similar
to any other working relationship. It's important to
clearly establish what is expected from each party to
prevent future conflict. The contract will clearly state
the nature of the work, including hours of work, vacation
time, and so on. None of the terms of an agreement can
violate any existing Federal or Provincial Laws of the
country where the indenture is executed.
What
we offer
We help families find
the right caregiver suit their individual needs. We
match both parties based on mutual requests and desires.
Once the caregiver registers and completes our thorough
screening process we build their profile. Profiles are
than made readily accessible to our participating families.
If the family approves the profile, then we will facilitate
the interview process.
Should a family choose to hire the caregiver, we will
coordinate with both parties in order to obtain the
work permit. If the employment relationship, between
the family and the caregiver is terminated for cause,
during the work term, than we will find another caregiver
for the family and we can match the caregiver with another
registered family.
